The Importance of Relaxation Techniques … The Facts on Stress …

A report compiled by NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) shows indisputable facts that Work Related Stress is the highest cause of stress in today’s society.  The survey shows that one in four people view their jobs as the number one stressor in their life.  It also shows that three quarters of people believe workers have more on the job stress than a generation ago.

The report is a compilation of surveys by several key players in stress reduction and stress management including Northwestern National Life and Yale University.

The causes of Stress at Work and Work Related Stress were:

—> Working conditions – The location, people you work with, environment, culture and terms of employment.

—> Worker characteristics - Individuals outlook, abilities, personality and coping style.

The NIOSH approach to Stress at Work is to find a balanced approach to the working lifestyle.  It can be defined in 3 basic categories:

—> A balance between work and family/personal life

—> A support network of friends and co-workers

—> A relaxed and positive outlook

Generally, focusing on third strategy will have a massive impact on the first two.  A good method to tackle stress is through relaxation techniques conducted on a daily basis as a method to release built up stress and anxiety accumulated during the day.  Different relaxation techniques including stress relief CD’s, relaxation breathing techniques, stress relief exercises, keeping a journal and physical activity are excellent methods for creating a more relaxed and positive outlook.  The greatest step you could take would be to complete a stress relief program.  An excellent stress relief program should gives specific methods of relaxation, a way of setting and recording relaxation goals and specific stress management techniques to learn and implement.  This combined with a greater respect for work related stress would decrease the overall instances of stress and help to develop a more focused, happy workforce.

Here’s why Relaxation Techniques are super important

Stress Relaxation Techniques are a must for everyone, everyday. Built up frustration, stress and anxiety can be a killer … literally. If unreleased all that tension will one day burst without warning.

Every single person from every walk of life is affected by stress. For instance there are different relaxation techniques for athletes than there would be Relaxation Techniques for Kids. But the one common denominator is the fact that Relaxation Techniques are important. Relaxation allows your body to rejuvenate. For example, imagine your body is like a rubber band. When you experience stress and anxiety that rubber band stretches. If you continue to place stress on that rubber band it will snap.

But what if you were to apply a constant pressure that doesn’t actually snap the rubber band but always keeps it stretched? If left long enough it will permanently change the rubber band and it will decrease its ability to stretch. This is the same as us. Unless you release the tension, you will either snap as we mentioned earlier, or it will change you in other ways. So whether yo use a Relaxation Breathing Technique, or any other Relaxation Technique is not important, what is important is you releasing the tension that can and will have a permanent impact on your mind and body.

Famous Last words on Relaxation

Stress Relief and Relaxation Techniques have been around for as long as men and women have experienced stress. Sure the different types of stress relief techniques there are around to treat a number of different ailments ranging from Relaxation Techniques during labor to different Relaxation Techniques for athletes.

So we all know and understand stress is around us, we experience stress at work, at home, when we’re driving, when we’re shopping, even when we’re with loved ones.

As the end of another week draws near, what better stress relaxation techniques than to read a few choice quotes on relaxation from recognized people throughout history? These quotes were taken from www.quotationspage.com, which lists a large variety of quotes for any situation.

-> Acquire inner peace and a multitude will find their salvation near you. - Catherine de Hueck Doherty

-> Nothing is permanent in this wicked world - not even our troubles. - Charlie Chaplin

-> Put duties aside at least an hour before bed and perform soothing, quiet activities that will help you relax. - Dianne Hales

Where are those Relaxation Techniques for that painful drive home?

There aren’t many things that test my patience nowadays, but I have to admit sitting in traffic drives me bonkers! All the relaxation techniques I have learned in my lifetime seem to go out the window when I am stuck in traffic. Which tells me learning how to remain calm in a car would have to be one of the best stress relaxation techniques available.

Of course we all handle things differently, and certain things push our buttons that would never affect the next person. But driving seems to push more people’s buttons that many other areas of Stress. I mean some people are scared of driving and therefore would benefit from some sort of relaxation techniques for anxiety to calm their nerves. One suggestion I’ve heard is relaxation breathing techniques. You can use this breathing exercise when driving to calm themselves yourself from the lunatics around you. This may help you feel truly calm.

Another suggestion is to use visualization techniques for relaxation. You have to be really careful when using this technique as you are driving, you know what I mean. It can even be as simple as occupying your mind.

If you are travelling with someone else try a few car games. Simple games like creating words from each letter of a number plate, playing eye spy, or thinking of the number of countries and cities you can think of that start with each letter of the alphabet.

Whatever method you use I have always found any form of relaxation technique good. I mean, it’s better than sitting there building up your anger and bursting.
